Judge withdraws from Saraki’s suit against CCT, others

Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday withdrew from a case filed by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, against the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). Saraki is seeking to retrain the CCT, the Federal Ministry of Justice and others from proceeding with his trial on alleged false declaration of assets. Justice Mohammed had on September 17 declined to grant Saraki's prayer for an order of interim injunction restraining the respondents. Instead, the judge ordered that the respondents be put on notice and for them to explain on September 21, why the prayer sought by Saraki should not be granted. On September 21, the judge, after entertaining argument from parties, elected to hear the substantive suit. Justice Mohammed said it was more honourable for him to hand the case file back to the court's Chief Judge for reassignment to another judge. To avert a possible misrepresentation of the day's proceedings, the judge directed an official of the court

BREAKING: Alaibe Pulls Out Of Bayelsa Governorship Race

APC Governorship aspirant and former Managing Director of the NDDC, Mr. Timi Alaibe has pulled out of the race to become the flag bearer for the APC in the Bayelsa State governorship. A statement signed by Mr Alaibe says he pulling out to avoid a situation of crisis that the PDP might reap from. “I am not oblivious of the fundamental fact that we all need a virile, united, cohesive and collaborative APC to bring about our desires to fruition. Not only do we need this, APC deserves every sacrifice, including personal interests, to arrive at the envisaged destination come February, 2016.” “Whereas I am confident that I have the required support of my admirers and supporters as well as the needed backing of Bayelsans to govern them, the hurdles set on the way of this noble project are seemingly tempestuous and capable of overheating the APC in Bayelsa.” Mr Alaibe believes that the virtuous path is sacrificed for the common good, whether for the APC or the state in general.

US state of Georgia executes first woman in 70 years, despite Pope Francis appeal

Washington (AFP) – The US state of Georgia executed its first woman in 70 years early Wednesday, despite an appeal for clemency by Pope Francis. Kelly Gissendaner, 47, made a statement and requested a prayer before she was put to death by lethal injection after a flurry of last minute appeals. “At 12:21 am (0441 GMT) the court-ordered execution of Kelly Gissendaner was carried out in accordance with state law,” said Gwendolyn Hogan, a spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Corrections. She was sentenced to death after being found guilty of conspiring to murder her husband in 1997. Her execution was initially scheduled for 7 pm Tuesday (2300 GMT), but was delayed as her lawyers sought an 11th hour reprieve in filings before a federal court of appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court and the US Supreme Court,

He added Thanking President Obama for organising this important meeting which he said the timing is appropriate and the subject matter warrants close attention as the threats posed by ISIL in the Middle East, and violent extremism elsewhere, are an existential dange
