US Sending Ukraine $450m More In Arms – White House

The United States is sending a new batch of military assistance to Ukraine, the White House said Thursday, with the $450 million shipments including four more advanced rocket systems to use against Russian invasion forces. “This package contains weapons and equipment, including new High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems,” White House spokesman John Kirby said. Also included are tens of thousands of rounds of artillery ammunition and patrol boats. The rocket systems known as HIMARS are at the top of Ukraine’s wish list as the pro-Western country battles a Russian invasion force advancing through the east of the country with the help of a significant advantage in the heavy artillery. An initial four units of the rocket system have already been delivered, kicking off the training program required for Ukrainian soldiers to operate the sophisticated and highly accurate weaponry. Another four are now being sent, the Pentagon said. Also included are 36,000 rounds of artillery ammunition,...

2023: Lawan, Akpabio, Umahi Missing As INEC Releases List Of Senatorial Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the list and particulars of candidates vying for various positions at the federal level in the 2023 general elections. Conspicuously missing were the names of Senate President Ahmad Lawan, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, and Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi. The trio had contested the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress but may have been hoping to reclaim the APC senatorial seats after failing to win the top seat. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, an INEC National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, said the commission is not obligated to publish the name of candidates that did not emerge from valid party primaries. “If a political party submits to the Independent National Electoral Commission the name of a candidate that did not emerge from party primaries or did not emerge from valid party primaries, the commission is not obligated to publish the name of such a ...

The imperative of voters education.

There is no denying the fact that free, fair, credible and peaceful elections form the firm foundation on which to build the solid house of democracy, anywhere in the world. The challenges however, are many, particularly as it concerns Nigeria’s money-driven polity.  Amongst the hurdles placed on the intricate path to good leadership in the country is mass poverty on the part of millions of the electorate scattered all over the rural areas. And since the cost of accessing positions of authority, as well as running the machinery of government are on the prohibitive side politics is abnormally skewed in favour of the few rotten rich. Fully aware of this anomaly, they capitalise on it, instead of ameliorating it. Firstly, they make fanciful promises which they do not intend to keep but which they know have compelling appeal to the long-suffering masses. These are promises the poor masses see only in their nebulous, distant dreams! So, not a few of them capitulate to taking ba...

FAKE NEWS AND ITS COMPONENTS

Fake news (also known as junk news, pseudo-news, or hoax news is a form of news consisting of deliberate disinformation or hoaxes spread via traditional news media (print and broadcast) or online social media. Digital news has brought back and increased the usage of fake news, or yellow journalism. The news is then often reverberated as misinformation in social media but occasionally finds its way to the mainstream media as well. Fake news is written and published usually with the intent to mislead in order to damage an agency, entity, or person, and/or gain financially or politically,[7][8][9] often using sensationalist, dishonest, or outright fabricated headlines to increase readership. Similarly, clickbait stories and headlines earn advertising revenue from this activity. The relevance of fake news has increased in post-truth politics. For media outlets, the ability to attract viewers to their websites is necessary to generate online advertising revenue. Publishing a story w...

The Rules You Need To Know When Airlines Lose Your Luggage

When an airline loses your luggage, it’s never fun. But smart travelers can end up collecting major cash after such instances if they follow the correct protocol. You should know that  on flights within the U.S., airlines are legally required to reimburse you up to $3,500 if your bags are lost, damaged or delayed in getting to you. Yep, by law, you can collect up to $3,500 for items you had to buy as a result of your bag issue, even if the bag is delayed but eventually returned to you, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.  What can I get reimbursed for? Expenses must be both reasonable and documented: Almost all airlines require you to file a claim within a specific timeframe if your bag is delayed, damaged or lost and to document your related spending with receipts. If they think an expense wasn’t necessary ― say, you buy a $3,000 bracelet to wear during the two days that your bag is delayed...
