Abdulmumin Jibrin goes on exile in London

The suspended member of the House of Representatives,  Abdulmumin Jibrin  is now on self-exile in London. And he has vowed never to return to Nigeria unless his safety is guaranteed. Jibrin made this known in a statement in Abuja. The  News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) , reports that Jibrin, left Nigeria for London last week to receive an award and take his anti-corruption campaign to international community. He was suspended for 180 legislative days by the  House of Representatives after accusing the Speaker, some principal officers and a few other members of corruption, abuse of office and monumental fraud in padding up the 2016 budget. In an interview with a television station in London on Monday, the lawmaker said he recently received threats from some of the lawmakers he accused of corruption. The All Progressives Congress Youth Forum (APYF), on Monday accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of abusing its powers under the law by sending its operatives to pick up one of the Forum’s founding members, Mr. Abubakar “Abusidiq” Sidiq Usman, on charges of cyberstalking. A statement released by the EFCC earlier on Monday claimed that Abusidiq was arrested and questioned on offences that allegedly contravened the Cyber Crime Act. But reacting through Olu Onemola, the National Public Relations Officer of the Forum, the APYF condemned the filing of spurious charges against Abusidiq, stating that if the EFCC’s actions was left unchecked, it could dent the institutional credibility of the financial watchdog and the perception of the adherence to the rule of law of the entire President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government. FG Orders Sealing Of Company For Illegal Diversion Of Explosives

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Kayode fayemi has ordered the immediate sealing off of Nigerian Development and Construction Company; an importer and exporter of explosives in Koko, Delta State, over illegal diversion of explosives. In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Olayinka Oyebode, the closure is in addition to the blacklisting of the company and withdrawal of its license to do business. The statement adds that this development is sequel to investigations by the Office of the National Security Adviser which revealed that the company was involved in illegal diversion of about nine thousand kilograms of nitro-glycerin explosives and 16,420 pieces of electrical detonators from its magazines between 2015 and 2016. The Minister warns all manufacturers, importers, sellers and end users of explosives in the country to desist from unprofessional sale, procurement, storage and use of explosives in line with the provisions of the explosives act of 1954,...

19 Militants Held As NAF Jets Destroy Four Camps In Southwest

Pilots of the Nigerian Air Force fighter jets have destroyed the four major camps of suspected militants, who are said to be armed pipeline vandals at Arepo, Ogun State, on the fourth day of the sustained aerial attacks on the hoodlums in the area. The Director of Information and Public Relations of the NAF, Group Capt. Ayodele Famuyiwa, told The PUNCH on the telephone on Sunday that the NAF was intensifying aerial operations during the day and the night to dislodge the militants terrorising riverside communities of Ogun and Lagos states. Famuyiwa said the NAF was carrying out sustained operations against the vandals to prepare the stage for the ground troops to move in and get rid of the gunmen. Abdulmumin Jibrin, the ousted Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation arrived at ICPC office on Monday, August 1, to submit his petition against Speaker Yakubu Dogara; Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun; Whip Alhassan Doguwa and Minority leader, Leo Ogor. The Kano State lawmaker has accused the Speaker and some other lawmakers of corruption and padding of the 2016 budget and allocating to themselves 40billion naira out of the 100billion allocated to the entire National Assembly. Mr Jibrin said via his twitter handle that he would fully cooperate with investigators to understand the level of budget fraud and abuse of office by Speaker Dogara and other lawmakers.
