Christ Embassy’s Pastor Chris donates N1bn to Benson Idahosa University

Rev. (Dr.) Chris Oyakhilome

The Founder and President of Believers Loveworld Ministry, otherwise known as Christ Embassy, Rev. (Dr.) Chris Oyakhilome, on Friday announced a donation of N1 billion to Benson Idahosa University as part of his support to the institution which he described as one of the legacies of his mentor and role-model, the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa.

Oyakhilome announced the donation at a special Convocation Ceremony held at the institution where an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree was conferred on him.

According to the televangelist, the financial support was to facilitate the Faculty of Engineering project in the Benin City-campus of the institution.

Oyakhilome who disclosed that his contribution to the University is borne out of his passion to contribute to the development of lives meaningfully and positively, noted that the Founder of BIU, the late Archbishop Idahosa, had positively influenced his life and ministry as a youth.

He said the televangelist ministry of the late Archbishop Idahosa, popularly known as Idahosa World Outreach (IWO Television), was the first of its kind in the country which he noted helped to liberate lost souls and influenced christians to accept Christ globally.

"Many times, people would ask me why I talk about the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa more than anybody. It will surprise you to know that as a young man, I was working with the Archbishop in the mail room in the Church of God Mission in Benin City. I was blessed to have worked with the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa.

While working with him, I had the blessing and benefit of seeing the Archbishop passed by my table everyday to his office," he said."The Archbishop Benson Idahosa was one of the most remarkable and inspiring personalities of the 20th Century. It is a fact of life that those who did not have the privilege to get to meet him, are blessed to meet him through many of us. The impact of the Archbishop on me as an individual is unquantifiable.

Chancellor BIU and wife of the late Founder, Archbishop Margaret Idahosa, described the awardee as a spiritual son of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa and Founder, Church of God Mission International (CGMI).

She noted that the decision to honour Rev. Dr. Iyakhilome with Doctor of Divinity was to recognise a person who has greatly contributed to building and saving lives through his ministry, home and abroad.

Touching story: How I Survived Ebola ~ Dr Ada Igono

On the night of Sunday July 20, 2014, Patrick Sawyer was wheeled into the Emergency Room at First Consultants Medical Centre, Obalende, Lagos, with complaints of fever and body weakness. The male doctor on call admitted him as a case of malaria and took a full history. Knowing that Mr Sawyer had recently arrived from Liberia, the doctor asked if  he had been in contact with an Ebola patient in the last couple of weeks, and Mr. Sawyer denied any such contact. He also denied attending any funeral ceremony recently. Blood samples were taken for full blood count, malaria parasites, liver function test and other baseline investigations. He was admitted into a private room and started on antimalarial drugs and analgesics. That night, the full blood count result came back as normal and not indicative of infection. The following day however, his condition worsened. He barely ate any of his meals. His liver function test result showed his liver enzymes were markedly elevated. We the...
