Akwa Ibom: Why Umana Umana may lose the rerun election to PDP - Philip Obin

I'm 100% APC - body and soul, and have continued to volunteer to contribute my quota to the ideals of the party and its sustainability, but after carefully personally investigating the current state of the politics of Akwa Ibom state, carrying out a survey, and hearing from a good number of Akwa Ibomites who believe the devil they know is better than the angel they haven't met, following the judgement of the Akwa Ibom governorship election tribunal, calling for a rerun in 18 out of 31 local governments of the state, I make bold to say that if the Akwa Ibom Governorship election rerun holds today as it were, the PDP will win against the APC squarely, unless the narrative and permutations change, even if the election is completely cancelled and a fresh one conducted in all 31 LGAs, as being appealed by Umana Umana and the APC. Two major factors are at play here: 1. The sustained popularity of Godswill Akpabio as the chief promoter of Udom Emanuel and the PDP in the state

Kogi: Why We Believe Audu Will Defeat Wada Squarely Come November 21 - APC (Must-read)

Wada’s greatest headache is APC’s governorship candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, an old war horse. Abubakar, a former banker, is well tested and acquainted with the state’s political climate. In 1992, he became the first civilian governor of the state under the platform of the defunct Nigerian Republican Convention (NRC). He literally transformed the infrastructural landscape of Kogi State to the amazement of all. In 22 months, Audu’s magic wand traversed critical sectors such as housing, health, road construction, health and industry. Under his watch, the state established three different housing schemes for public officers, consisting of over 1,500 housing units in Lokoja. There was also the transformation of Lokoja Township with asphalt road, street lights, aesthetic roundabouts, the construction of inter-township and rural roads, over 75 electrification schemes and 50 water projects. He also founded Kogi State Polytechnic, a television station, radio station, both AM

PRESIDENT BUHARI SENDS DELEGATION TO ADAMAWA AND BORNO, ASKS COMMUNITIES TO PLAY ACTIVE ROLES IN SECURITY

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has sent a powerful delegation to two states, Adamawa and Borno States to condole with their governments and people over the increased bombing activity by Boko Haram terrorists, with a strong appeal to local populations to share in the responsibility for security in their surroundings. The President, who spoke through the leader of the delegation, Engineer Babachir David Lawal, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,SGF directed all communities in the country to revert to old practices by which new arrivals in their neighborhoods were taken note of by local chiefs and security agencies. Going down the memory lane, the President recalled that these were practices that worked well in past in securing neighborhoods and local communities." The ward head, the village head and the local police knew every new entrant into the community.  They kept tabs on them and detected traits of criminality before evil-doers get the chance to act

Senate Will Confirm Amaechi As Minister Without PDP Senators – Ndume

The Senate Majority Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) members in the Senate would ensure that the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, scales through confirmation as Minister. This is contrary to insinuations that the former governor might not be confirmed by senators when they resume plenary on Tuesday, October 27 due to the protest against Amaechi by PDP members in the upper chamber. In an interview with Channels Television in Kaduna, Senator Ndume expressed displeasure with the tension being generated by the Rivers State chapter of the PDP over the nomination of Amaechi as minister, stating that despite all the protests and petitions, the former governor remained qualified to be confirmed as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. According to him, with the APC having the highest number of members in the Senate, the PDP cannot stop the Senate from confirming Amaechi or other nominees as ministers. Senator Ndume

APC condoles with Borno, Adamawa over Bokoharam attacks

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condoled with the government and people of Borno and Adamawa over the deadly attacks that left many dead and injured in the two states on Friday. This is contained in a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. APC said that while even the loss of one life was too much to bear, the government and people of the states should take solace in the fact that the attacks would come to an end. The party based its optimism on the fact that the nation’s gallant soldiers have stepped up campaign against Boko Haram insurgents. ”The spike in the attacks in recent times is a direct reflection of the huge successes by the military in flushing the Boko Haram terrorists out of their strongholds and putting them on the run. “With no fortress to call their own any more, having been smoked out of Sambisa forest and removed from their caliphates, they have resorted to these cowardly attacks

Why There Are So Many Mokeys In Zimbabwe

A man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $20.00 each. The villagers seeing that there were some monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $20.00, and as supply started to diminish, the villagers reduced their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $30.00. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $40.00 each and the supply of monkeys became so little that it took so much effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it! The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $100.00! However, since he had to go to South Africa on some business, his assistant would now buy on his behalf. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers, "Look at all these monkeys in this big cage that the man has

Amaechi And His Fanatical Fans By Dele Momodu

Fellow Nigerians, if you did not watch the much-anticipated and long-delayed Ministerial screening of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, last Thursday, October 22, 2015, at the Senate Chambers of Nigeria’s National Assembly, you definitely missed a high drama.  There was no way I would have missed the live broadcast of that historic event. Thanks to technology, my wife and I stayed glued to Channels TV transmitting all the way to us in London. We received many calls from well-meaning Nigerians who were anxious to see the cup pass over Amaechi’s head. Social media platforms were instantly on overdrive.  Twitter in particular was on fire. The Rock Star of Nigerian politics was on stage and the entire country was at a standstill. I was very agitated for several reasons.  In particular, I didn’t want the world to view Nigeria as a country of ingrates who would rather destroy and bury the heroes of their struggle instead of celebrating them. Right from the time forme

Kogi legislator calls for reinstatement of 270 sacked council staff

Kogi House of Assembly member representing Mopa-Muro constituency, Mr Obaro Pedro, has called for the reinstatement of some 270 staff members of Mopa-Muro Local Government, sacked in December 2013. In a motion of Urgent Public Importance at plenary on Friday, Pedro implored the house to direct the council to reinstate the workers and pay their outstanding salaries to date. Pedro said that there was urgent need to look into the plight of the 270 council staff members employed in July 2010, and sacked in December 2013 over zero-allocations. He said that many of the affected staff members could hardly feed themselves and their families since then. The legislator said that their children could no longer go to school as they had to drop out due to lack of funds to attend to their educational needs, aside other family and domestic commitments. He explained that shortly after the sack in the 21 Local Government Areas of the state in 2013, Kogi House of Assembly issued a

Government Working On Petroleum Pump Price Reduction — Osinbajo

Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, says the administration of Muhammadu Buhari is working on a medium-term reduction of the pump price of petroleum products. Professor Osinbajo said the government had made efforts to ensure that private refineries come on stream to reduce pump price substantially while reducing importation of refined petroleum. He said the government would reduce the role of the NNPC to its main objective of regulating the sector and ensure a reduction of pump price of petroleum products. “Unbundling The NNPC” “We are going to be unbundling the NNPC so that its various components are effective core centres and are able to do their business well. “In the refining area, we know that at the moment, we have quite a few of the refineries are getting back up. Using those refineries, we have seen the inefficiencies already; we’ve seen the cost. “You can refine at 60 per cent capacity, but if it costs 20% more than it would cost you i

Wada: So far, not so good by Amuda Dan Sulaiman‎

He promised to fix Kogi State with his transformation agenda, but four years after, Governor Idris Ichala Wada's promises have remained largely unfulfilled! At virtually all his campaign rallies in 2011, the Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Ichala Wada got the crowds to see him as one of them. His smiling face advertised him as that who does not belong in the sphere of the inordinately ambitious inhabited by most of the country's politicians. Indeed, Wada rode to the office on the back of one heart-winning campaign slogan: ' a transformation agenda'. Although he didn't outline specific agenda. His niche was that he was going to make a change. Not a simple change, he said, but a superlative change. He promised a transformation, which the dictionaries described as a ' marked or radical change', usually for the better. And he said he would, like Usain Bolt, hit the ground running, once he got into office. Therefore, assessing Wada, four ye
