The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced testing and linkage of HIV/AIDS positive clients to treatment, care and support services across the country. The Federal Government introduced the programme in a bid to ensure adequate prevention of HIV in Local Governments across Nigeria. Speaking during the exercise on Wednesday, the Senior Programme Officer of the National Agency for the Control of Aids, Martins Ojo, said that the aim of the programme was to carry out a free medical mission and to increase access to HIV counseling and treatment. In Ikole Ekiti community, both young men and women seated patiently to be tested and treated one after the other. It was a special exercise aimed at promoting community-level awareness of HIV/AIDS, providing preventive messages to members of the public. The beneficiaries of the programme commended the Federal Government for the initiative.

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has given the assurance that 60 million poor Nigerians will enjoy unfettered medical care under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration within the next two years. The Minister who said this during his visit to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, added that 10,000 health facilities would be built in 774 Local Government across the country for effective service delivery to the people. While promising that the government would pay them their dues, Prof. Adewole also advised all health workers not to see strike as the only option for negotiation. The Ekiti State Governor, who was represented by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Kola Oluwawole, urged the Federal Government to also look into the areas of staff welfare, considering the nature of their profession. The lawyer to the embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, has appealed to the Nigerian government to allow the rule of law prevail in his trial. Speaking exclusively to Channels Television in Abuja on the re-arrest of his client by officials of the Department of State Service shortly after he was released from Kuje Prisons, Dasuki’s lawyer, Mr Ahmed Raji, said his  client deserved to enjoy the bail granted him by different courts . Colonel Dasuki, who pleaded not guilty to a one-count charge of alleged illegal possession of firearms preferred against him by the Federal Government, had earlier been granted bail by a Federal High Court to enable him seek medical attention abroad. He was also granted bail by an Abuja High Court in another suit of criminal diversion of funds amounting to 2.1 billion dollars preferred against him by the Federal Government. Nigeria’s Super Eagles forward, Odion Ighalo, has credited his team’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea to persistence and hard work. Ighalo scored his 13th goal of the season when Watford held the defending champions at Stamford Bridge. He said the team fought to the end, knowing that they could get something out of the game. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Thursday rejected Musa Hassan Bility’s appeal against FIFA’s rejection of his candidacy to run in the vote to elect a new head of world football’s governing body. Bility was barred from entering the race to succeed Sepp Blatter in the election to be held in February after he failed to pass a series of integrity checks. CAS said in a statement that it had “dismissed” Bility’s appeal. “At the request of Mr Bility, and with the agreement of FIFA, an expedited procedure was put in place to enable a final decision on the merits to be issued before the end of 2015,” said CAS, a panel of whose arbitrators held a hearing with the parties on December 23. Blatter, who is serving a 90-day suspension, has already announced he is stepping down from the presidency he has held since 1998.
