In a statement issued today, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) claimed that a team negotiating on behalf of the Federal Government for a return of peace to the oil-rich delta had agreed to release several detained or imprisoned militants, including Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Henry Okah, a MEND chieftain serving a jail sentence in South Africa, Charles Okah, and Obi Nwabueze. The statement disclosed that Mr. Kanu and other detained IPOB activists would be released on condition that they renounce their agitation for secession. According to MEND, ex-Senator Adolphus Wabara had introduced the compromise to secure the release of the pro-Biafran agitators. All week Trump has sought to tamp down the chants by stressing that his main goal is to simply beat Clinton in the Nov. 8 presidential election. BlackBerry  has just revealed its first smartphone to follow the Priv, the awfully named  DTEK50. In something of a surprise move (the phone has been leaked for a while now), the device appears to be built by Alcatel, given it’ s virtually identical to that company’s  Idol 4S. The specs certainly are identical: Snapdragon 617 3GB RAM 16 GB Storage 5.2-inch QHD display Micro-USB MicroSD expansion 13MP Rear Camera with phase detection I happen to be reviewing that exact phone at the moment, and it’s a solid device, but I can’t help but feel a little disappointed BlackBerry didn’t choose to create something original after they took a step in the right direction with the Priv. Also, there’s definitely no physical keyboard on this one. Then again, this is meant to be a budget device. The DTEK50 will retail for $299. The Cross River State government has started  intervention work on some of the failed Federal roads in the state. The intervention efforts were being supervised by a director in the Cross River State Ministry of Works, Engineer Godwin Akeke. Akeke said that the objective of the state government was to ameliorate the sufferings of motorists who ply the roads. He added that other road agencies were on ground to see that the intervention process goes smoothly as directed by Governor Ben Ayade. Motorists plying the roads have commended the efforts of the state government and called for the Federal Government’s support to complement the development.
